3 videos to help make you a Google Admin Console ninja

Summer is here and it’s training season—in many districts around the country, educators are brushing up on new additions to the Google Apps ecosystem, and some are stepping into the cockpit for the first time. There’s a lot to take in, when you grab the reigns as a Google Apps Admin, but here are Newmind Group’s favorite jumping-off points for educators ready to get their hands dirty with the Admin Console.

Google Apps Admin Console First Steps (Admin Training Week)

Some minor things have changed since the video was made for Google’s Summer 2014 #admintrainingweek, but we love Google Gooru’s thorough walkthroughs—they even explain the testing process at the end of your Admin Console training. In this video, Andrew McConnigle takes you through each piece of the Admin Console and offers great advice for newcomers, as well as small things you may have missed.

Edu on Air: Google Apps Admin Console Best Practices

During Google Education on Air in May 2015, Peter Henry of Amplified IT shared his best practices for Google Apps Domain Admins—we especially liked his emphasis on organizational units for school domains. He also hammered home that Admin Console users should take steps to configure their core apps, set up alert management, and assign admin roles. Check out the full video for more!

Teacher Tips: Using Chrome Management Console to manage users and devices

This last video keeps it short and sweet: Dean Stokes, the Learning Technologies Manager at Maltings Academy, gives tips on Admin Console management settings to help keep students engaged with their work during class time. Did you know you could set your class’ Chromebooks to automatically open a specific webpage every time they log in for a lesson? You can change it between each class if you want, so you’ll never have to worry about time lost with students struggling to navigate on their own.

It’s a big world out there for Google Apps admins, whether you’re an Admin Console rookie or a seasoned veteran. Even if you’re keeping up on the management tools, Google is adding new features all the time and there’s no harm in a refresher. Are there Youtubers or other resources that you follow for Google Apps training? We’d love to hear about them!
